While he and his family, The Provenzanos provide high quality, Italian briar to the best pipe makers in the world, Mimmo is, himself, a very talented pipe maker.
This stout, sandblasted pot shows that talent, in unique ways. This pipe is like the '69 Camaro of pipes!--if that Camaro was also painted a deep, black lacquer and pulled up to a formal event.
Sandblasted with a deep, ring grain effect, and dyed a deep, layered black (with beautiful undertones of dark brown and red), I would almost call this a "dress pipe" of sorts, without the stuffy formality. This pipe is meant to be smoked!
The thick walls on the bowl and well crafted blast shows a pipe maker who takes a thoughtful approach, and cares more about the whole composition, rather than just making a pipe to sell.
There is also just a bit of sandblasting on the rim's outer back edge which spills over nicely onto the bowl. A brave, but, well executed flourish that I have not ever seen on any other artisan's pipe. And it just works.
Rugged, but also rakish, overall, this pipe just feels good in the hand, smokes beautifully, and is a real looker! It's also in excellent, barely smoked condition. In fact, as I write this, I'm thinking to myself, "why am I selling this again?"
